Working in Spain

If you are an EU national then working in Spain is very simple. You just need to obtain a NIE number so that you are registered on the spanish tax system and then you can find suitable employment in Spain. The difficulty is that you need a job first to get the NIE number (unless you already have one for buying a car or house etc)

You will find that many employers are reluctant to offer full time contracts but their costs per employee are very high, on top of which the current law sides with the employee in most cases and can leave the employer in a difficult position should the employee get signed off sick etc.

The best way to find work in Spain is to use the services of a recruitment agnecy as they are able to guide you and advise you as well as help you find work.

In this area of the Costa del Sol it is only a short drive (50 minutes) to Gibraltar and for many there are lots of available jobs in Gibraltar within the banking sectors, gaming and accounting.

Working in Gibraltar is just as easy as in Spain although you will be paid in sterling and subject to local tax. Many people actually work in Gibraltar and then live in Spain.
